The Manager, Database Administration is responsible for planning, procurement, installation, configuration, testing, security, tuning and maintenance of all Database related technologies in support of the Canada and other businesses as required.

Job Description

• Coach, mentor and manage a team of technical direct reports
• Manages and monitors workload of staff members, provides direction on project deliveries
• Provides consistent and timely feedback to staff members regarding their performance and development
• Prepare and manage departmental budget – includes forecasting and development of business cases (ROI) for approval
• Work with vendors on the annual maintenance contracts of Database systems and look for opportunities to improve efficiencies
• Develop business plans and strategies to support our clients business across Canada
• Continually applies knowledge and expertise on initiatives and offers direction and guidance to the various groups involved to ensure successful outcomes
• Responsible for architecture, planning, procurement, installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of all Database related technologies in support of the business
• Ensure databases are supportable (by vendor) and under enforceable maintenance contracts at all times
• Document processes as it relates to production and DR procedures
• Ensure security and access compliance – including encryption where necessary
• Field database audit requests and liaise with auditors on all aspects of database management
• Research and champion the deployment of new technologies (e.g. Cloud) and features that benefit the business.
• Continually seeks methods for enhancing the efficiency of the database environment
• Responsible for timely delivery of multiple projects
• Accountable for reliability, availability and security of the Database systems and infrastructure (24×7)
• Ensure databases are properly tuned and performing optimally
• Ensure availability SLA's are consistently met throughout the year
• Represent the database team at change and (deployment) risk management

Required Experience

• University degree or college diploma in Information Systems or Engineering
• More than 5 years of technology experience including 3 years in a leadership
capacity, preferably in the financial services industry
• Thorough understanding and hands on experience in advanced RDBMS technologies
as applied to various database systems
• Excellent performance tuning and database monitoring skills
• Strong system integration skills with experience in enterprise storage, backup and
recovery systems


• Oracle advanced database technologies (Oracle 12 /RAC), MS SQL Server2016
• UNIX, Windows and Linux scripting experience
• Progress RDBMS and Progress Appservers including PASOE
• Big-Data Technologies
• Cloud Computing technologies
