Position: Outage Inspection Technician/Technologist (Temporary)

Location: Toronto, ON

General Overview

As a technical specialist, perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting in the laboratory and at nuclear generating stations to support outages. This may include assisting others on phases of major projects or smaller projects and dealing with customers to solve problems, responding to inquiries, and maintaining good relations. The initial assignment will be in the Inspection & Maintenance Systems Department.

This is a shift worker position. Shift workers may be assigned to work 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shift schedules.

General Duties

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine laboratory and field investigations; provide support in laboratory or field environments by conducting experiments, conducting tests or servicing equipment under quality control procedures.
  • Assist in the design, assembly and maintenance of tooling equipment, processes, systems and development of test methods.
  • Prepare routine technical documentation such as field implementation procedures, inspection and test plans, operating manuals, etc.
  • Prepare Technical Work Instructions.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of work performed. Maintain quality records.
  • Perform other duties as required.


  • Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering technology or related subjects
  • Experience in the nuclear industry and/or outages would be an asset
  • 5 years related hands on experience with materials/and or machine shop
  • CGSB UT, ET preferred but not mandatory
  • Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical components, visual inspection equipment, motion control hardware and other instrumentation to facilitate assembly, testing and maintenance of tooling devices and systems
  • Requires experience supporting the CRD scrap and inspection project
  • Requires knowledge of mechanical systems theory and practice to undertake the design, assembly, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of various commercial and custom tooling.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products for test data analysis, charting and document preparation.
  • Requires practical hands on experience with tools and knowledge of mechanical and electrical tool assembly, troubleshooting and site deployment of tooling
  • Strong written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills
  • Solid knowledge of Quality Assurance principles
  • Must be able to travel to customer sites and participate in nuclear outage support work
  • Demonstrate practice of excellent safety awareness and adherence to practices and procedures.
  • Experience with nuclear site procedures and safety standards are considered an asset
  • Ability to be granted nuclear site security clearance
