Our client, one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada, has an immediate need for an SAP Solution Architect for the Distribution Design Modernization (DDM) project. This is a contract position for six (6) months located in Burnaby, British Columbia. This is a part-time position, averaging 40% – 60% utilization monthly. Candidates can work remotely for the duration of this contract

Description

This Solution Architect will support the integrated utility distribution design & asset management implementation project. This involves an integration between SAP Compatible Unit and a Graphical Design Tool. The SAP EAM Solution Architect will act as System Architect/Functional Lead, providing solution leadership for the implementation of an integrated utility distribution design and enterprise asset management project, using SAP technology integrated with a graphical design tool such as Automated Utility Design and some customer-facing applications.

Accountabilities

  • Identify and understand business and system requirements using various techniques such as documentation analysis, requirements workshop, proof of concept, etc.; assess the suitability of SAP solutions to address the requirements by ensuring that the solutions are properly integrated with existing processes and technology; provide professional recommendations/options for implementing required system changes to ensure that the solutions and enhancements meet business requirements.
  • Develop conceptual designs and strategy that meet business requirements by collaborating with SAP solution leads and project leads to support business operations in achieving organizational objectives.
  • Deliver high-quality solutions for SAP projects and initiatives by completing problem identification, system architecture definition, hardware/software specification and design, implementation, testing, training, and solution deployment while following requirements, policies, and standards.
  • Provide ongoing guidance to the projects’ detailed designs in alignment with the strategy by delivering insights during solution definition, proof of concept, and pilot deployments including producing testing plans, implementation scope and strategies, and efforts estimations to complete design guidelines, trade-offs, architectural evaluations, recommendations, and decisions.
  • Identify, assess, and communicate risks, contingencies, issues, and mitigations; present feasible and sustainable solutions while adhering to industry standards and best practices for SAP implementation
  • Contribute to assigned projects by delivering inputs and support to the team and the consulting team as required while providing timely updates to the solution leads and project leaders on status, issues, and concerns to enable successful completion of projects safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

Required

  • Must have experience as a Solution architect for at least one project integrating Compatible Unit Management (CU) with a Graphical Design Tool
  • Must have 12+ years experience supporting SAP solutions with demonstrated experience with SAP EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) tools as a Solution Architect
  • Experience with SAP IS-U customer service and plant maintenance is an asset
  • Mandatory qualifications:
  • Expert knowledge and experience in Compatible Unit Management (CU) including in-depth understanding of end-to-end graphical design process and tools using CU
  • Familiarity with utility focused design tools
  • Familiarity with GIS solutions
  • Highly desirable qualifications:
  • SAP IS-U Customer Service and Plant Maintenance integration experience on order, quotation processing, and billing for customer connection/contribution
  • Experience in building complex customer contribution calculator
  • Integration expertise of SAP EAM with other SAP modules such as FI, CO, MM, SD, PS, EHSM, and HR
  • Nice to have qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Automated Utility Design
  • Familiarity with Smallworld GIS
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, an asset
  • Certificate in Technical/Solutions Architecture, SysOps, or Development – Associate level, an asset,
  • Professional level preferred
  • Advanced skills in the following areas:
  • SAP implementation from project initiation, build/configure/test, production system cutover, support, and closing
  • SAP solutions
  • SAP integrated systems
  • SAP roadmap and industry best practices
  • Good working knowledge of the utility industry, an asset
  • Excellent communication skills for professional environment, written and spoken

Additional Information

  • The manager is open to seeing candidates based in the US or Canada. The resource can work from home for the assignment. Once covid worksite restrictions are lifted, they may need to travel to company sites on occasion for meetings
  • This is a part-time position, averaging 40% – 60% utilization monthly. The SAP EAM Solution Architect will only charge for the time worked on the project,
