Our client, one of the largest energy suppliers in Canada has an immediate need for a Junior Project Manager to work on distribution projects for a pole replacement program specifically focusing on identifying program exceptions and analyzing cost and schedule variances for different pole projects. This is a 12-month contract located in Vancouver British Columbia.

  • Management of financial and schedule exceptions with an objective of tracking and resolving them to reduce overall program risk.

What you will need to succeed…

  • A minimum five (5) years of project management experience or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Economics or related discipline (Bachelor’s degree in engineering is an asset).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) designation, preferred.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Advanced English skills for professional environment, written and spoken.
  • Communication skills.
  • Analytical abilities.
  • Organizational skills will be important strengths for the successful candidate to have.
  • Software skills required will include SAP and Excel, Tableau would be real asset, and SAM/DAD (GIS software).

Smart Metering Analyst

Our prominent BC client has an immediate need for Smart Meter Analyst to join their team for a four month contract opportunity in Langley, British Columbia

Musts for candidates:

  • Well-developed analytical ability with two (2) years of demonstrated work experience in analysis and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of database queries and generating reports using SQL and other relational database programming languages and tools.
  • Ability to utilize spread sheet applications such as Excel to an advanced level.
  • Ability to operate ticketing (incident/problem management) systems such as BMC Remedy, ServiceNow, SalesForce.
  • Well-developed teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of escalation protocols in order to raise trouble tickets with application management, data collection and field services groups.

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to use a variety of Smart Metering specific applications particularly those from Itron and Cisco: OpenWay Reporting System (ORS), OpenWay Collection Engine (CE), Network Management System (NMS), Field Network Director (FND) and Grid Director. There are similar applications for products from other Smart Metering companies such as Landis & Gyr, Silver Springs, GE, and others.
  • Understanding of rates and billing in an Enterprise System, i.e. SAP.
  • Familiar with large information systems; file and data management; file transfer and processing protocols.
  • Understanding of utility grid operations protocols and procedures.
  • Understanding of electric fundamentals, including volts, amps, kWh, demand, phases, and an understanding of power factors for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers.
  • Bachelor’s education preferred, or a technical diploma with relevant experience also accepted. Computer Science, Math, Business Administration, Engineering included in possible education background.

IT Sourcing Specialist

Our client is an energy leader in British Columbia and they have an immediate need for a Senior IT Sourcing specialist to join their team for a 1 year contract position.

• The Supply Chain Professional Level 2 is accountable for delivering assigned outcomes related to the development and execution of category/project supply chain strategies, sourcing strategies and/or sourcing activities following established processes and quality requirements.

• This role would generally be assigned medium complexity and/or risk work assignments with minimal oversight or medium to higher complexity and/or risk work assignments with more oversight.

 

Experience and Role Accountabilities

• A minimum ten (10) years of sourcing, category management or equivalent, preferably in a complex environment of a similar size to BC Hydro.

• Experience in categories or infrastructure capital project sourcing would be considered an asset.

• Develop and plan the implementation of category and/or sourcing strategies or related work packages by using excellent skills in communication, analysis, critical thinking, planning/project management, supplier/market research, problem-solving, and facilitation of decision-making in a large and complex organization.

• Implement category and/or sourcing strategies or related work packages using a thorough understanding of sourcing and category management processes and standards, good project management practices, knowledge of public sector procurement law, and the appropriate application of relevant supply chain concepts.

• Lead and/or support projects that may include developing and conducting multi-stage RFPs, preparing for and conducting negotiations, both initial award and for extensions, as well as implementing supplier relationship management initiatives including analyzing and resolving escalated contract or supplier issues.

• Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships between supply chain organization and business partners, suppliers, and stakeholders through activities such as timely communication, resolution of issues, and relevant reporting.

• Act as a subject matter expert by advising on category management and/or sourcing best practices, approaches, and standards to enhance current operational efficiency and future capability.

 

Education and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent

• Certificate or additional education in Supply Chain Management is an asset.

• Certificate or additional education in Project Management, Change Management, Facilitation or Communication, an asset

• Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

• Advanced English skills for professional environment, written and spoken

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing IT sourcing events for contracts with large spend for the client.

  • IT procurement experience is a must have (i.e. sourcing & procurement for IT service contracts)
  • 10+ years relevant experience
  • Experience writing, running & managing RFPs & contracts for large annual spends (i.e. $5MM +)
  • Public sector or crown corporation experience preferred.
  • Must be located in the greater Vancouver area

Cost Engineer

Our client is a leader in providing clean electrical power to the province of British Columbia.  They have an immediate need for a Cost Engineer to join their team for a one year contract position.

This position is part of the Transmission Lines and Stations Estimating Team located in Burnaby, BC. This position provides estimating support for capital and maintenance projects and technical guidance as it relates to the estimating discipline. This role includes providing cost estimating, scheduling and construction expertise for a wide variety of transmission lines and substations works including upgrading and new projects for all stages

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • As an experienced Professional Engineer, prepares the direct and indirect cost estimates for services, labour, materials and equipment, and the high level schedules for 69kV – 500kV transmission line (overhead, submarine and underground cable) and substation projects during Planning, Identification, Definition and Implementation Phases.
  • Gathers information on project scope of work and contracting plans and assists in the establishment of the project work breakdown structure in preparation for estimating.
  • Develops and manages the estimating work package or activities for the project, reviews the work packages of others for completeness vs the project scope before incorporating in the project estimate.
  • Prepares for, coordinates, conducts or presents estimates at management review meetings or at meetings addressing issues related to estimate/schedule in a project.
  • Reviews final estimate package and ensure it meets all the requirements and comments from reviewers prior to final approvals/acceptance of the estimate.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of engineering degree in the Electrical or Civil disciplines, Preference will be given to candidates with an electrical engineering background
  • A minimum Eight (8) years of combined experience in engineering and construction including at least Four (4) years related experience in heavy industrial projects estimating and scheduling working on varied complex utility contracts projects up to or in excess of $100 million in total project value. Preferably this experience is for power utility transmission lines (overhead & underground) and substation related projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a senior estimator with a solid understanding of estimating principles and practices, including risk, accuracy, Monte Carlo simulations, market and industry conditions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with multi-discipline engineering design (electrical, protection and control, civil, geotechnical, etc.)
  • Experience in preparing substation conceptual layouts (for electrical discipline) based on single line diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of project management principles
  • Knowledge of, and experience with estimating and scheduling software, and ability to develop and work with computer models.
  • Well-developed leadership, facilitation, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Class-5, or equivalent, driver's license,
  • A Member of AACE International organization and familiar with the AACE’s estimating recommended practices is preferred
