The successful candidate will be responsible for providing senior level support and expertise in purchasing materials, equipment and services for operations and projects implementations, aiming to assure the supply of items for business continuity, at the lowest total cost of ownership possible, achieving industry best practice standards of delivery time and quality of products and services.

Accountabilities:  

  • Lead and execute procurement processes including:
    • Plan purchases / defining supply terms and strategies

  • Manage system and supplier issues data base, based on information provided by Line of Business, and create reports for analysis
  • Execute a sourcing plan for technical purchases, according to company timelines.
  • Build an understanding of suppliers’ facilities and production processes, along with the facilities and production process with the goal of identifying supply chain opportunities.
  • Work with departments (internal customers, DIDS) in the development and approval of new suppliers and products.
  • Recommend competitive suppliers in alignment with category strategies, and stakeholders (vendor management area, requisitioning area, safety, etc)
  • Knowledge of supply chain and document controls to facilitate the operational integration with suppliers, through documented contracts
  • Interface between users and procurement for resolution and mitigation of risk of claims from suppliers
  • Lead and/or participate on multifunction teams (internally) to execute purchasing, aiming to meet internal customer needs (quality, terms etc.), specifications improvement, monitoring tests of new materials and their post-acquisition application by users.
  • Lead and/or participate in synergy meetings (externally) with the customers and suppliers with the objective to capture future demands that will impact the operation and the stock level, identify items for inclusion and revise criticality of stock items; includes review of supplier performance with recommended action to address issues or deficiencies
  • Develop new and manage existing relationships with companies supplying goods or services to our company
  • Assure availability of goods and services that demand continuous supply trough follow up of existing contracts and or review for contract amendment or renewal
  • Identify and monitor key performance indicators to understand key suppliers performance

Education/Certification: Undergraduate Degree required in Business or related discipline (Commerce, Engineering, Legal). MBA, Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) and/or certification through Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) are desirable.

Related Employment Experience: 3-7 years progressive experience in related roles (internal or external) is required. Such roles might include: Buyers, procurement officers, contract administrators, category managers, etc.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Access), Adobe and Internet. Working knowledge of procurement systems including SAP. Database management is also an asset.

Leadership experience, demonstrated negotiation skills, inventory and warehousing experience, proficient knowledge of contract law, sales tax, customs procedures, as well as duty and transportation options is an asset.

The Opportunity: 

The Warehouse Coordinator will report to the Contract Management Lead and is to provide support to the North Atlantic Surface Projects and Studies Group. This individual provides effective warehousing services to the Surface Projects and Studies Group in accordance with the companies project management principles of safety, quality, scope, schedule, and cost. This role is primarily an individual contributor role that provides support to the Contract Management Lead. This role adds value by coordinating the goods received process, material management (storage) and releasing of material to contractors engaged by the Project Group. Accountabilities:

  • Support design stage of project validating material take-offs and in the estimate of materials, time and labour costs and productivity

Estimator

The Opportunity: 

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Estimator will be the internal subject matter expert, (consisting of project estimating, historical cost database development and maintenance, and benchmarking) provides expertise to capital projects within the global Base Metals business. The incumbent will act as key representative of the Project Group in this discipline and is responsible for Governance over all capital projects (throughout the FEL stages and execution) and project services personnel.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for Capital Cost Estimating practices and the review and approval of CAPEX on all capital projects.
  • Accountable for the configuration, set-up and maintenance of project management software tools, estimating tools, being deployed on projects
  • Hold a governance role as part of the North Atlantic Project Group management team to ensure that Capital Cost Estimating is effective and part of the cohesive structure of the NAPG
  • Responsible to ensure that Capital Cost Estimating on major capital projects in study or execution phases are developed, managed, maintained, and reported in accordance with corporate policies and project procedures.
  • Maintain governance and oversight in the area of project setup and project execution planning.
  • Key participant in Alignments Sessions, QA Reviews, Peer Reviews, and Tollgates during the project study and execution phases to ensure a high level of Capital Cost Estimating quality on projects Reporting project cost to management team for internal reviews, as well as analyzing cost variances and recommending corrective actions to the projects.
  • Develops and maintains a database of historical project cost information.
  • Evaluate scopes of work, WBS and EBS, quantity takeoffs, assumptions, inaccuracies, design growth, and contingencies developed on capital projects.
  • Review the Project’s Estimate Plan and Basis of Estimate and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Participate in Risk analysis sessions to contribute aspects of CAPEX and OPEX risk and ensure the integrity of Monte Carlo simulations for the development and incorporation of risk elements into all project estimates.
  • Review all project estimates prior to submission of study for Tollgates and reports on integrity of the estimate in the Tollgate reports.
  • Analyze cost reports and prepare cost comparisons as deemed necessary and provide guidance to project managers and senior management.

Planner Scheduler

We are seeking an intermediate or senior planner to join our team due to new projects. This role is a one year contract located in Sudbury, ON. 
 

The Opportunity: 

Provide planning and scheduling services to support all surface capital projects within the group. The scope of the work is from the conceptual to the planning and implementation phases in order to ensure that projects present a realistic project timeline. These timelines will be used to develop FEL 3 studies and full project execution plans. The quality and quantity of the planning and scheduling have a direct impact on the success of the projects.

  • Responsible for developing a realistic project plan and schedule to meet the project objectives.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all standard procedures and systems for project planning and scheduling are followed, per the companies Project Delivery System (PDS).

Cost Controller

The Opportunity: 

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Cost Control Specialist will have the responsibility for leading the cost control and financial control support of all Capital Projects with the Group. The primary role of this position is to initially prepare cost forecasts, track/monitor all costs associated with the Surface Projects and Studies. We are looking for an intermediate or senior cost controller to join our team. This is a 1 year contract opportunity located in Sudbury. 

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for leading the overall cost control support for the group.
  • Creating and managing detailed project information related to cost.
  • Support the Project Scheduling team with setting up, tracking and analyzing consultants and contractor’s man-hours and associated costs within the performance management system.
  • Reporting project cost to management team for internal reviews, as well as analyzing cost variances and recommending corrective actions to the projects.
  • Responsible for reviewing the budget development and project cash flow and cost control from the projects during the development to ensure the project objectives are delivered.

  • Liaise with project team to ensure all project tasks are identified and resource needs are properly estimated for the project.

  • Review project accounting information and set up the required transfers between the companies business units.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience as a cost controller for large capital projects
  • Excellent working knowledge with the use of Cost Management databases on Projects. The use of the PRISM database software and the use of SAP will be an asset.
