Human Resources Business Partner

The Opportunity: 

Vale is currently seeking a talented and energetic individual to join their Human Resources team as a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) at the Thompson, Manitoba location 

The HRBP role acts as a true coach, works with local management to implement creative solutions on all HR related matters including employee & labour relations, career and succession planning, performance management, compensation, recruitment, etc. The HRBP is focused on equipping our leaders with the required tools and training materials to strengthen employee relationships and foster employee engagement. The HRBP actively facilitates and drives various change management initiatives. The HRBP participates in various joint committees and/or HR special projects as required. The HRBP is an integral member of the leadership team at each plant or mine facility within our Operations.

This is a full time permanent opportunity to join our enthusiastic team of HR professionals who meet regularly to share learnings, solve HR challenges and “Dig Deep” together in order to provide quality HR service to our clients.

The successful candidate will also:

  • Organize, plan and achieve results safely while managing competing and changing priorities
  • Provide expert labour relations advice regarding the application of our Collective Bargaining Agreements 
  • Lead the plant specific grievance administration process including arbitration case management
  • Communicate effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of our organization
  • Conduct quality workplace investigations
  • Provide advice on compliance with applicable legislation such as the Workplace Safety and Health Act MB, Employment Standards Code, Manitoba’s Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, and/or Vale specific policies
  • Leverage strong interpersonal skills in order to foster and maintain successful and influential relationships
  • Possess proven conflict resolution skills
  • Coordinate and deliver HR training materials
  • Support implementation of common human resources processes
  • Develop care for our people and champion personal and career wellbeing
  • Efficiently plan and execute people development work that contributes to plant performance and delivers business value
  • Be an impartial resource for all employees to access services and support that they need

  • Work as part of an HR team in the development and execution of HR initiatives
  • Be flexible to work at any of our Manitoba Operation plant or mine facilities as required

Experience:

  • 5-7 years’ experience in a related Human Resources generalist function with increasing responsibility is required
  • Previous experience working in an industrial and/or mining environment is preferred
  • Previous experience working in a unionized workplace providing labour relations support is preferred

Education and Professional Qualifications:

  • Possess an undergraduate degree in Business, Labour Studies, Human Resources or a related discipline
  • Possess a Human Resources Management – Graduate Certificate preferred
  • Possess a CHRL designation preferred (or working towards this)
