Our mining client is looking for a Field Superintendent to ensure contractors within their area are working in a safe manner abiding by all safety program requirements. This role is based at Cigar Lake. The schedule for this role will be 2 weeks in and 2 weeks out, on 11-hour days. Fly in and out will be provided, and room and board will be provided at Cigar Lake.

What you will be doing…

  • Review and in some case development of detailed work plans according to the client’s workface planning processes.
  • Oversight of contractor’s field activities, specifically in the mechanical and piping discipline to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Checking and verifying that the mechanical and piping work is completed per the engineering drawings and quality requirements.
  • Monitoring of the contractor’s schedule and productivity and support resolution of barriers and issues.
  • Daily validation and approval of contractor submitted labour, equipment and material reports.
  • Responsible to coordinate field activities between contractors and the client’s operations team as required.

What you will need to succeed…

  • Previous experience in a brown field construction environment is required.
  • Previous underground mining experience considered an asset.
  • Moderate computer skills required, specifically MS Office.

Seeking an experienced mechanical and piping designer for a refinery in Port Colborne. This is a one year contract position with potential for extension. This person must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent you will have the opportunity to work on small projects and large projects as a team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Create 3D layouts and 2D drawings for various in house projects
  • When service requests are received you must go out into the field, evaluate and put together the request. 
  • Present designs to the team, receive feedback and make changes
  • Communicate with individuals in the company to review their service requests
  • 60-70% of this role will be spent designing at a workstation and in the field taking measurements

 

Requirements: 

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, CET or Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma
  • 5 – 7 years experience in mechanical and piping design
  • Experience using MicroStation software preferred, AutoCAD is also acceptable.

Responsible for purchasing materials, equipment, and services for operations, aiming to assure the supply of items for business continuity, at the lowest total cost of ownership possible, achieving industry best practice standards of delivery time and quality of products and services.  This is a key role to refine and implement related aspects of the operational readiness plan. LAB ANALYST

A progressive Niagara region employer requires a Lab Analyst to work in their industrial lab facilities on a 1 year contract. 

Must Haves:

  • Residing in the Niagara area 
  • Personality must be reliable and committed 
  • Willing to work overtime/weekend day/holiday IF necessary
  • Will require working 12 hour continental shifts

Duties and Accountabilities:

This is an in-process quality analysis position where samples of metallurgical product are routinely analyzed during production through a variety of methods using state of the art instruments and techniques.

  • Metals analysis, trace analysis and sample preparation
  • Working knowledge of ICP
  • Sample preparation, including weighing, digesting and diluting a broad range of different sample types
  • Perform routine sample analysis using a variety of analytical techniques

  • Operation and basic maintenance of analytical instrumentation
  • Have knowledge of laboratory safety manual, quality manual, test methods, and SOPs in order to perform daily responsibilities and to report departures from these established procedures

Construction Coordinator

The Construction Coordinator will ensure the successful construction of assigned projects monitoring the constraints of SAFETY, COST, SCHEDULE & DELIVERABLES. The incumbent will be part of the project team and provide daily progress reports to all of the stakeholders. The incumbent will be intimately familiar with engineering standards and good construction practices. The person will also be expected to be knowledgeable in each project contract, scope of work and through this knowledge ensure company interests are protected. The incumbent will be expected to coordinate the construction aspects of multiple projects simultaneously.

Major Accountabilities

Safety, Environment & Health:

  • Know & follow all safety policies, procedures & standards applicable to the division and to the department
  • Demonstrate safe behaviour
  • Create and follow a personal safety plan annually that supports the goals of the department.
  • Ensure that all projects are executed/contractors are using PHA, MOC and SLAM.
  • Ensure all personnel working on projects are suitably orientated to the operation
  • Conduct daily audits using SLAM on constructors during the course of the project execution
  • Compile and maintain project safety statistics
  • Manage Project Safety Plans

Production & Execution:

  • Assist in the initial development of the project action plan for execution. Working with the operations and the constructor adapt the execution plan to ensure ongoing operations and project schedule are not adversely impacted
  • Produce and distribute daily reports on the progress of each project.
  • Prepare and issue Field Work Instructions/Orders FWI’s to be approved by the assigned Project Manager
  • Develop and coordinate all project execution activities including kick off meeting, regular progress meetings, safety orientations, work quality inspections and commissioning
  • Ensure constructor is maintaining a clean set of red lined drawings
  • Utilize Project Delivery System including forms and procedures with local adaptations

Costs:

  • Review all request for extra’s with respect to the contract and issue the appropriate documentation
  • Review all submitted progress certificates for accuracy of work performed
  • Bringing to the immediate attention of the Senior Specialist – Projects any major deviations from the budget schedule or scope

Quality/Customers:

  • Ensure the work performed is in conformance with engineering standards and good trade practice
  • Act as the liaison between constructor, operations and the Senior Specialist – Projects
  • Ensure deliverable final product meets the scope of work and the intent of the project
  • Quality will be judged on Operability & Maintainability of final product, cost, schedule and safety record.
  • Ensure all red lined drawings are handed over to the Senior Specialist – Projects at the end of the project and prior to commissioning.
  • Coordinate the removal of all obsolete drawings from the Drawing Management System

People:

  • Monitor and coordinate constructor activities to ensure schedule and production is maintained.
  • Audit constructor for Safe production practices and report on same daily
  • Meet commitments made with customer

CONTRACTS ASSISTANT

The Opportunity: 

The Contracts Assistant (CA) will support the contract coordination services on our clients project following the corporate guidelines, procedures, clients values and policies.  Reporting to contracts manager, the CA will be responsible for providing assistance to the Contract Coordinators in the day to day management of contracts through the accountabilities outlined below.

This is a project term position, based in the St. John’s, NL project office.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide support to Contract Coordinators to perform post award contract management responsibilities.
  • Process requisitions and invoice releases along with the required support documents.
  • Assist with requisition development with the distribution of pre-award support documents for review prior to compiling the technical support package for Procurement.
  • Maintain worksheets and databases as required for effectively track contract costs and commercial issues; coordinate the personnel and equipment approvals prior to start of work on site.
  • Assemble and maintain hardcopy/electronic records, files and databases for the project contracts related correspondence.
  • Assist compiling technical information required by Procurement to issue a bid proposal; request support from the discipline leads and contract coordinators. 
  • Schedule and attend weekly contract progress/coordination meetings with contractor and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Assist with the verification of invoices as per directions provided by Contract Coordinator; maintain invoice issues log and under Coordinator’s guidance strive to efficiently resolve pro-froma billing issues to facilitate timely payment; complete the SES tracking worksheet.
  • Assist Contract Coordinator administer with the technical bid qualification review, evaluation and scoring process.
  • Management of low risk contracts;
  • Perform other general related duties and ad hoc projects as assigned to support contract management activities.

Education:

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years experience, preferably in a project environment on heavy industrial or mining projects.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge working with SAP.
  • Very good written and oral communication skills.

MUST HAVES: 

  • Capable to do lifting – active job and has physical demands
  • Experience in warehousing (or similar)

  • Background in mining, construction, warehousing – anything processing

DUTIES:

  • Eligible for one-the-job training and licensing for forklift and crane work.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures and adhere to best practices in performing all tasks
  • Report all unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager, and if necessary,
  • Follow-through with JHSC representative for Minerals,
  • Handle mineral samples, including lifting up to 25kg, point-to-point conveyance with carts, dolly’s, and pump trucks,
  • Inspect and operate the forklift and attachments safely,
  • Inspect and operate overhead cranes safely,
  • Inspect and operate rock breaker, crushers, and rotary splitters safely,
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain dust collection equipment including mobile dust collection, clean-up equipment, and HEPA dusthoods, “Smart Drum” blender and related devices
  • Maintain high standards of operational hygiene at all times with every job which will include complete cleaning and washdown as appropriate before/after every job, and organize work to avoid cross-contamination of samples
  • Maintain order and knowledge of freezer inventory,
  • Perform some test work and data entry.

Commissioning Technical Support -Completions

The position of VBME Commissioning Technical Support – Completion coordinates the Completion

activities as it pertains to the field execution of project tasks. The position will be a direct report to the

VBME Completions System Lead.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Day to day duties and deliverables as follows: 

 

Responsible for implementation on a day to day basis of a strong health and safety culture in line

with  Safety and Health and Environment management system.

· Participate in construction meetings.

· Champion the completion system and process.

· Provide guidance on the use of the electronic completion system.

· Calling and organizing Final Walk-Down.

· Maintain construction & commissioning punch lists;

· Facilitate partial turnover process between construction and pre-commissioning / commissioning.

· Overall coordination & agreement between construction and commissioning for sub-system turnover.

· Driving final subsystem completion for construction.

· Communicate and work collaboratively with various project disciplines and the operating group.

Essential Skills / Qualifications & Assets:

5+ years on industrial projects with a minimum of 2 years as a Completions Engineer/Lead

· Strong understanding of construction and commissioning activities as it pertains to project completion and turnover.

· Previous field level experience on completions / turnover process on large projects.

· Previous experience with Commissioning’s completions / turnover group is seen as an asset.

· Previous experience with electronic completion systems.

· Comfortable working in a team-based environment while possessing the ability to manage and prioritize day to day duties and deliverables.

· Demonstrate proficiency in the use Windows & Outlook.

· Strong Organization Skills

· Strong Communication Skills, both Written & Oral

Work Site and Schedule

 

  • Position is based in Voisey’s Bay, the shift schedule is 2 weeks in 2weeks out, working 12hr days, for the 14days on site. The rotation / shift / schedule may change to meet the needs of the project execution effort. You may be expected to work from the St. John’s office from time to time.
  • The place of work will be Voisey’s Bay Site in Labradour, as a fly in / fly out operation, all employees will be flown to/from designated pick up / drop off points in Newfoundland and Labrador on a chartered service to site at no cost.
