Our Mining Client is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for its headquarter in Saskatoon.

Duties:

  • Perform mechanical engineering design work on various projects 
  • Experience with sizing and selection HVAC and building services, major process, pumping equipment, and piping design. Experience with design of steam and condensate systems would be an asset. Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Work with mechanical designers for CAD work in support of development of 3D models and 2D drawings
  • Develop and revise technical specification, work on scope of supply, BOMs and construction work packages
  • Projects will be based at Northern Saskatchewan and/or Ontario sites. Individual will be required to visit occasionally to these sites.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and registered with APEGS as P.Eng. Registration with PEO is considered an asset.
  • Experience with process piping, pumping, equipment and layout design, HVAC and building services.
  • 4-9+ years

The Opportunity:

Provide planning and scheduling services to support all surface capital projects under the North Atlantic Project Group. The scope of the work is from the conceptual to the planning and implementation phases in order to ensure that projects present a realistic project timeline. These timelines will be used to develop FEL 3 studies and full project execution plans. The quality and quantity of the planning and scheduling have a direct impact on the success of the projects.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for developing a realistic project plan and schedule to meet the project objectives.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all standard procedures and systems for project planning and scheduling are followed, per the Project Delivery System (PDS).
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the planning and scheduling functions across all work locations and ensuring the schedules are integrated into one schedule.
  • Responsible for ensuring that proper WBS, coding and resources are integrated into the schedule.
  • Implementing project planning procedures in accordance with standards as well as preparing and maintaining the timeline for development and setup of various schedules.
  • Ensuring plans and schedules are prepared and integrated according to project standards and contract requirements.
  • Has excellent knowledge of Primavera P6 and provides overview and expert advice for the use of
  • Primavera and Microsoft Project on various capital projects.
  • Performs regular quality checks and signs off on project schedules.
  • Reviews contracted 3rd party work plans and schedules for accuracy, thoroughness and completion.
  • Review and monitor planning and scheduling initiatives in support of the PDS throughout the life of the project.

A progressive Niagara region employer requires a Lab Analyst to work in their industrial lab facilities on a 1 year contract. 

Must Haves:

What is your role in this?

Mining Construction Superintendent

Our mining client is looking for a Mechanical or civil/structural Construction Superintendent for their mining operations in Port Hope ON. If you have experience with brownfield construction execution in the mining industry, that will be an asset. It will follow a 2 weeks in/out schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure contractor personnel are executing safe construction work according to all safety program requirements
  • Work collaboratively with contractors to develop project schedules and workface plans prior to mobilization that ensure safe and efficient construction work is performed
  • Oversight of contractor field activities during execution of the work to ensure compliance with all contractual obligations and all site-specific procedures
  • Coordinate field activities between the contractor and the operations team as required; resolve and remove roadblocks that prevent work from being executed efficiently

  • Previous experience in brown field construction execution and working in an industrial environment is required

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide analysis to assist the project team to successfully deliver projects

The Opportunity:

Inherently by its nature and type of work, including first energization of equipment, Commissioning is a higher risk activity, and there is no room for improvisation.

The Commissioning group is responsible for: pre-commissioning (S2) tasks required to verify equipment / component integrity; and, cold commissioning (S3) tasks required to verify logic and controls will function as designed. The newly constructed process systems have been divided into commissionable sub-systems consisting on mechanical equipment, piping and electrical power & controls.  The Commissioning Group will primarily consist of Lead(s), Commissioning Technicians, and Commissioning Technical Support. Each group is supplemented with a construction team, a controls team and an electrical team dedicated to the Commissioning group.

The position of Commissioning Lead provides the leadership to the commissioning groups responsible for commissioning tasks. The position will be a direct report to the Commissioning Manager who is responsible for overall commissioning plan.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Day to day duties and deliverables as follows: 

  • Responsible for implementation on a day to day basis of a strong health and safety culture in line with Safety and Health and Environment management system.
  • Responsible for the management of an assigned commissioning group work on site.
  • Ensures the commissioning set-up, including of pre-testing and vendor assistance, and process commissioning is efficiently executed to satisfy of commissioning objectives.
  • Provide direction and support to the Commissioning Technicians so they can plan for the execution of Commissioning activities week(s) in advance.
  • Ensure completion of check sheets and related paperwork that facilitates turnover of a sub-system to the operating group is completed.
  • Report weekly into database program to report on commissioning progress and bottlenecks on a sub-system level.
  • Assist in mitigation plans to overcome any schedule slippages resulting in identified commissioning shortfalls.
  • Participate in weekly schedule meetings to modify the Primavera schedule so it accurately reflects the planned turnover date and tracks commissioning progress.
  • Monitor completion of outstanding construction and commissioning punches and turnover readiness.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with various project disciplines – including other commissioning groups, Commissioning support groups, project engineering, QA and construction disciplines.

 

Essential Skills / Qualifications & Assets:

  • 5 or more years of experience as a Commissioning & Start up Lead. Experience in roles operational and/or maintenance superintendent/manager or QA inspector will be considered when evaluating the candidates experience.
  • Electrical or Mechanical trades designation with working experience in heavy industry is considered an asset.
  • Previous field level experience in directing a multi skilled team to support the Commissioning and Start-up of equipment on large capital projects.  
  • Previous field level leadership for field execution and testing experience on large projects.
  • Previous experience with led Commissioning/Start-up efforts is seen as an asset.
  • Comfortable working in a team-based environment while possessing the ability to manage and prioritize day to day duties and deliverables.

Work Site and Schedule

  • The place of work will be Voisey’s Bay Site in Labradour, as a fly in / fly out operation, all employees will be flown to/from designated pick up / drop off points in Newfoundland and Labrador on a chartered service to site at no cost.

Chief Engineer- Mechanical Design

The successful candidate will be a senior member of the Central Engineering Department in Sudbury, Ontario supporting North Atlantic Operations. The candidate will be responsible to provide mechanical engineering services to various plants and mines. 

The position requires the person to be capable of producing innovative engineering solutions to operating and maintenance problems. In addition, the person must have the capability of preparing project scopes of work and associated work packages for construction.

The position involves regular trips to underground mines and to the various surface plants. The candidate must possess a valid driver license.

Accountabilities:

  • Leads a team of design personnel to complete engineering designs and studies.
  • Responsible for integrity of designs produced under his/her technical direction and legally approves drawings as per the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Provides technical direction and troubleshooting to plants.
  • Highlights mechanical maintenance shortcomings and makes recommendations based on field inspections & audits and prepares the relevant reports.
  • Participates in the review of construction, commissioning and start-up functions.

Education:

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Professional Engineering Designation in the Province of Ontario.

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of experience of related and progressive experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in mechanical design for multi-disciplined projects
  • Experience in mechanical systems for both underground and surface mining, smelting and refining installations.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code requirements as they pertain to a mining environment both underground mines as well as surface plants.
  • Strong knowledge in the design of Industrial ventilation including dust collection systems, baghouses, make up air units, heating and ventilation units, pressurized water and steam boilers for building heating and domestic water heating. Codes and standards in the area in this area including CSA B139.1 Installation code for Fuel Fired Appliances, CSA B149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, CSA B149.3 Code for the Field approval of Fuel Related Components on Appliances and Equipment, as well as the Ontario Fire Code. Standards from the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors association for the fabrication of metal ductwork and installation of Air moving equipment is also of benefit.
  • Strong knowledge of Fire Protection System Design, Maintenance including Automatic Sprinkler Systems, Fire Standpipes, Fire Hydrants, as well as some knowledge of clean agent self-contained fire suppression systems. Codes and standards in this area are NFPA 13 Automatic Sprinklers, NFPA 14 Standpipe and Hose Systems, and NFPA 2001 Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems.
  • Familiarity with Technical Standards and Safety Authority or TSSA along with a strong knowledge of the design of Pressure Vessels and Pressure piping systems using ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code, ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code, ASME Section VIII Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and ASME Section IX for Welding Brazing and Fusing relating to the Boiler Pressure Vessel Code.
