Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the shipping, receiving, kitting, preservation, transport of materials, inventory, and distribution of all materials upon arrival at site.
  • Coordinate between contractors and trucking companies to develop an outbound logistics schedule which will meet requirements of all key stakeholders.

Pre-Commissioning Lead

The position of VBME Pre-Commissioning Lead is part of the commissioning group responsible for Stage

2 Pre-commissioning tasks. Stage 2 Pre-Commissioning Testing covers the verification and testing of

individual equipment. This work includes the instrument calibration, I/O Checks, motor rotation checks,

MCC checks, troubleshooting and repair, etc. The equipment is energized during pre-commissioning.

The position will be a direct report to the VBME Commissioning Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for Day to day duties and deliverables as follows: 

Responsible for implementation on a day to day basis of a strong health and safety culture in line with Safety and Health and Environment management system.

· Responsible for the management of an assigned pre-commissioning group work on site.

· Ensures the pre-commissioning set-up, including calibration of instruments and vendor assistance, and pre-commissioning is efficiently executed to satisfy of commissioning objectives.

· Provide direction and support to the Pre-Commissioning Technicians so they can plan for the execution of Pre-Commissioning activities week(s) in advance.

· Ensure completion of pre-commissioning check sheets and related paperwork that facilitates turnover of a sub-system to the operating group is completed.

· Report weekly into database program to report on pre-commissioning progress and bottlenecks on a sub-system level.

· Assist in mitigation plans to overcome any schedule slippages resulting in identified pre-commissioning shortfalls.

· Participate in weekly schedule meetings to modify the Primavera schedule so it accurately reflects the planned turnover date and tracks pre-commissioning progress.

· Monitor completion of outstanding pre-commissioning punches and turnover readiness.

· Communicate and work collaboratively with various project disciplines – including other

commissioning groups, Commissioning support groups, project engineering, QA and construction disciplines.

· Manage pre-commissioning pre-walks to monitor construction readiness for turnover of instrumentation and electrical assets.

· Verify the installation of instrumentation devices as per P&ID, designed details and other project data.

· Build work pack for instrumentation, electrical and other control documents.

· Ensure the Commissioning Lead is fully aware of any roadblocks or shortcoming that will impact the groups ability to start commissioning by the planned date.

· Interface with the Completions group to ensure construction check sheets are completed and in the turnover system.

· Coordinate punch clearing efforts between the construction, pre-commissioning and, if necessary, the operating group.

· Communicate and work collaboratively with various project disciplines – including other

commissioning groups, Commissioning support groups, project engineering, QA and construction disciplines.

· Provide Engineering support to Start-up team. This includes providing technical support for new installations which includes completing new datasheet, layout, loop drawings, termination drawings, completing redline drawing, providing troubleshoot requests and bring equipment on line after completion.

· Supervise the completion of punch list items as it relates to instrumentation and electrical work.

· Supervise the testing and commissioning of instrumentation field devices…power up and confirm devices are communicating to DCS, PLC and HMI.

· Review turn over documents.

· Provide technical support to Vale commissioning team, as well as manage troubleshoot request from the team. Solve problems as they occurred daily.

· Provide technical leadership and expertise to the Project team.

· Provide leadership and mentoring skills.

Essential Skills / Qualifications & Assets:

· 7 or more years of experience as a Technician for Stage 2 Commissioning Activities. Experience in roles of Electrical and/or Instrumentation leadership will be considered when evaluating the candidates experience.

The position of Commissioning Technician is part of the commissioning group responsible for supporting

commissioning tasks. The position will be a direct report to the Commissioning Lead.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Day to day duties and deliverables as follows:

  • Perform detailed calculations to compute and check electrical loads, systems, controls and operations.
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
  • Review, and when required Prepare specifications for purchase of electrical and instrument and equipment.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications of electrical and instrument systems, and general arrangement drawings to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and WPC requirements.
  • Act as liaison between WPC and SaskPower and any sub-vendors as required
  • Prepare regular update reports and presentations to management, and participate in vendor / engineering / team and management meetings.
  • Work closely with other firms, suppliers, consultants and other areas in the company in order to deliver the best engineering, schedule and cost outcomes.

Requirements

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • 5+ years of experience.
  • Potash Experience is strongly preferred.
  • On site field experience with construction, commissioning and maintenance is preferable.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Able to travel both within Canada and internationally as required.
