Busy season is May to September, and they keep their drivers going all year around.  You will be expected to safely operate a tractor and b-train tank trailers, including loading/unloading at customers’ sites and field storage locations throughout Western Canada while adhering to all procedures necessary to transport calcium safely.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Safe operation of tractor and b-train trailer configuration on various road conditions throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba including utilization of tire chains when required.
  • Transport, load and unload calcium in safe and professional manner while following company and site-specific procedures.
  • Perform thorough daily provincial HOS logs and vehicle inspections as per regulations.
  • Accurately complete and submit all company and customer required documents within the required timelines.
  • Report any hazards, infractions, breach of protocols or maintenance issues and submit to Dispatch.
  • Actively participate in tailgate meetings and attend all required safety meetings.
  • Assist the operation with other tasks deemed necessary to meet customer expectations

  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
  • Align components and clamp pieces
  • Weld components using MIG welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)

Ian Martin Workforce is working with a client that takes a personal approach to management and is very family-oriented. They are focused on Preventative Maintenance of Tractors and Trailers; they do not rebuild engines or transmissions.  It is a split between maintaining their own fleet consisting of Tractors, Tankers, some Flatbed and Vans; and their customers, which would include Tractors, Dry Vans and Box Trucks.

 

As our new Journeyman Mechanic, you will take pride in the work you do and will take the extra time to do it right the first time.  You’re a friendly, positive person that is supportive to those around you, you lend hand, and even willing to help when it’s not your job.   You like to teach the tricks of the trade and are to go-to person in the shop when someone has a question.  You are ready to hit the ground running from Day 1.  

 

You will be:

 

  • Maintain regular communication and follow up with management and customers
  • Organizing and distribute work details to technicians, recommending equipment and parts
  • Ensuring that the schedule is being followed
  • Adherence to safety standards and having accurate record keeping skills are essential
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and perform service and repairs on heavy trucks and trailers
  • Completing work orders
  • Teaching and mentoring Apprentices at different levels by ensuring that they are properly trained on service and repairs

 

Your qualifications:

 

  • Certification of Qualification Journeyman 310T Truck and Coach Technician
  • Ideally at least 3 years of in-shop experience as a Journeyman
  • Excellent at troubleshooting and understanding of Diagnostic programs 
  • Understanding on Electrical systems
  • Proficient in English both reading and writing
  • Able to execute scheduled as planed, strong time management skills
  • Able to comply with Health & Safety and always maintain a safe work environment
  • Supportive and respectful of others; ability to coach and mentor Apprentices
  • Flexible to work Rotating Shifts (Monday to Friday, 2 weeks on Days and 2 weeks on Afternoons, or Straight Afternoons, 8-hr shifts)

Ian Martin Workforce is working with the leading bus repair and refurbishment specialists in Canada. They have been in business for over 45 years using some of the most specialized equipment in the industry. They have a 60-bay, over 100,00 square foot facility with custom built paint down-draft spray booths and paint prep stalls.

 

As our new 310T Mechanic, you will be challenge in performing repairs to bus and coaches that have sustained significant damage including electrical systems and wiring.  It will be your job to assess the damage, determine a plan of action, and go for it.  You can expect that some repairs will take months to complete. 

 

Your tasks will include:

  • Determine extent of repair and supplies required for burnt out coaches with electrical damage as well as other collision damage 
  • Work with other departments to complete the repairs and get the vehicle prepared to return to the customer
  • Mentor and direct employees that are assisting with the repairs
  • Comfortable working in small spaces, and sometimes at the same time with lots of people
  • During downtime, performing maintenance on shop equipment

 

 

Qualifications

  • Certification of Qualification as a Journeyman 310T Mechanic with minimum of 5 years of practical experience with knowledge of heavy duty vehicles (trucks and buses)
  • Experience working with electrical systems
  • Knowledge of Fleet Maintenance best practices
  • Experience completing MTO inspections and documenting deficiencies
  • Experience in electrical and electronics, reading schematics and understanding hybrid systems
  • Knowledge of relevant Government Legislation, Government Health and Safety Acts and Standards
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, excellent vision and manual dexterity
