This opportunity is a combination of electrical and controls engineering. The company is located in Newmarket and manufactures machines for packaging. They produce multiple axis and high speed machines. This is a small location that offers prosperity and longevity.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Electrical design involving Industrial PCs, digital servo drives, fieldbuses, pneumatic power units and heat control
  • Design and development of controls systems for new products or changes to existing products
  • Generating electrical schematics and bills of materials
  • Cost analysis, specifying electrical hardware, creating new design solutions
  • Lead process improvement and cost reductions initiatives
  • Troubleshooting, participating in QA, and other activities relating to the development of technology utilized in packaging machinery
  • Write code to control machine motion per requirements
  • Problem solving and solution recommendation
  • Provide engineering support to customers
  • Support the testing and installation of equipment
  • Support continuous improvement efforts
  • Assist with training of internal and external customers
  • Provide support to the Customer Technical Service department

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical, Computer, Software, or Mechatronic Engineering, or Computer Science, from an accredited University or an Electrical Engineering Diploma with at least 5-7 years experience is a requirement.
  • 6+ years of experience in industrial controls, not including experience gained in academic settings
  • Strong communication skills in conjunction with, teamwork, planning and organizational skills are essential
  • Experienced in electrical BOM writing and electrical schematics drawing for original equipment designs
  • Experience with AC/DC, servo drive technologies (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi), PC based controls, AB PLC programs, distributed/centralized input/output hardware and industrial bus technologies (Profibus, Sercos, Ethernet)
  • Knowledge of international codes/standards OSHA, NFPA, CSA, EN, and IEC are required
  • Proven ability to debug and troubleshoot machinery, along with excellence in QA
  • Knowledge of programming practices
  • Knowledge of motion and timing
  • Mechanical, controls, and electrical system knowledge
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic components
  • Experience or training with PC’s servos, and PLC’s
  • Previous experience with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley products preferred
  • Experience with Siemens products
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to visualize concepts

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision

  • Ability to work independently and execute a plan
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
