Payroll Manager

Our client serves the Canadian Industry both in the distribution and manufacturing markets.  A private family-owned Canadian business, They are a successful supply chain partner providing “Intelligent Delivery” of products and solutions to the Industrial, Environmental, and Plastics industries. currently operate two manufacturing sites in Colborne and Elmira Ontario and have supporting warehouses and sales representatives across Canada and in the United States.  

 

Position:                         Payroll and Benefits Manager

Department:                 Human Resources 

Reports to:                    Director, Human Resources  

 

Primary responsibilities:

  • To coordinate, prepare, analyze and process the bi-weekly payroll to ensure all 150 employees (salaried and hourly) receive their pay in a timely and accurate manner while ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation, pension regulations and Company policies.  Employees are currently located in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta.
  • Provide benefits administration in relation to the health, dental and disability programs
  • Provide advice and assistance in relation to new Payroll or Human Resources initiatives
  • Ability to be a professional liaison with all service providers
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of a variety of payroll related documents i.e. WSIB calculations, Family Support payments, payroll register, pension documentation
  • Prepare monthly journal entries; payroll/benefits related remittances; and year-end adjustments
  • Complete annual government returns and statistical reports
  • As the main Administrator in different systems ensure all employee records are maintained accurately and treated in a highly confidential manner
  • Prepare and monitor documentation pertaining to employee enrollment, termination and benefit claims
  • Provide support in other areas of Human Resources (recruitment, performance management) as required

 

Background Required:

  • Post-secondary education in Business or a related discipline
  • Canadian Payroll Association designation considered a definite asset
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing a full cycle payroll and benefits administration
  • Prior experience using the ADP Workforce Now (WFN) system is considered a definite asset
  • Basic understanding of Accounting Principles
  • Ability to work both individually and as a valued team member
  • Organized and detailed with good analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in MS office
