Raise is hiring a Process Engineer for our client, ne of North America's leading energy infrastructure companies with operations in natural gas, oil and power industries throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico. This position is an eighteen (18)-month contract located in Calgary, AB. We are actively seeking talented professionals like you to drive these crucial initiatives forward.

Description

The Process Engineer will provide engineering review of operating and design documents & drawings to assess the need for process control solutions and respond to changing operation conditions across gas pipeline systems, control systems, facilities and pipeline operations. This is an excellent opportunity for exposure to customer gas plant operations, external customer relationship development and support, commercial operations & process safety.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide engineering review of operating and design documents & drawings to assess the need for process control solutions and respond to changing operation conditions.
  • Work with Commercial, Operations and other stakeholders to review, implement, and support changes to process control systems (E3 MOCs, PI Master Plan Engineering Justifications)
  • Communicate with customers to ensure compliance with Overpressure Protection (OPP) program and address any external PC/OPP questions and concerns.
  • Help with development and implementation of workflows for customer PC/OPP forms as well as database of customer PC/OPP data for internal use.
  • Review customer technical submissions for new and existing meter stations connecting to the pipeline networks in Canada.
  • Review technical documents and update OPP program documents as per review cycle.
  • Engineering assessment of pipeline & facility assets to determine suitable operating limits.
  • Collaborate with CGE Pipe Integrity, Crossings, Stress and Class teams support asset integrity programs and address identified risks!
  • Engage with stakeholder teams (Operations Planning, Gas Control, RAR and Regions) to identify causes and mitigation measures in case of pressure excursions.
  • Provide process engineering operational review to capital projects and support integration of new assets into pipeline systems (Datasheets, Operating Philosophies, Engineering Drawings, PTOS)
  • Point of contact and comments for regulatory compliance information requests related to overpressure protection/process engineering.

Role Deliverables:

Process Control Solutions (E3 MOCs, PI Master Plan, etc.)

  • Review operating and design documents & drawings to assess the need for process control (Pressure, temperature, flow rate) solutions.
  • Prepare current and proposed state summaries of configuration, equipment, and setpoints.
  • Raise, review, and coordinate E3 MOCs in SAP
  • Raise MPIDs, review, and submit PI master plan engineering justifications.
  • Work with Operations Planning, Gas Control, Regions, and other stakeholders to review, implement, and support changes to process control systems.
  • Review Operations Planning’s OPP assessment and provide process engineering comments.
  • Manage and coordination of OPP solutions as part of de-rates.

NGTL Customer PC/OPP Verification

  • Manage and communicate with assigned batch of 3rd party receipt customers to comply with Annual OPP verification deadlines.
  • Review customer engineering drawings (P&IDs and PFDs) and review forms for new and existing receipt meter stations connecting to the NGTL pipeline network in Canada.
  • P. Eng. approval and sign off on previously reviewed customer submissions.
  • Communicate with internal and external personnel including external customers, gas control, operations, marketing, engineering and field personnel.
  • Provide OPP solution to commercially impacted customer’s facilities and coordinate with external customers.
  • Update tracking database and keep track of form status.
  • Review technical documents and update issued program documents as per review cycle.

Incident Prevention Correction

  • Complete assessment of pressure excursions and develop solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Point of contact for regulatory compliance issues regarding pressure excursions 
  • Manage and coordinate all IPC pressure excursion Q3 tasks in SAP.
  • Engage with stakeholder teams (Operations Planning, Gas Control, RAR and Regions) to identify causes and mitigation measures for the identified pressure excursions.

Project Support

  • SME Support for capacity and integrity projects throughout Canada Gas
  • Provide process engineering operational review to capital projects and support integration of new assets into pipeline systems (Datasheets, Operating Philosophies, Engineering Drawings, PTOS)
  • Facility Support
  • Complete control valve sizing requests from within the organization
  • Complete technical review and generation of facility setpoints and operating philosophies
  • Complete OPP assessment of area assets for iLTO requests from Facility Integrity
  • Provide historical operational data to complete engineering sizing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, chemical, process, or mechanical preferred
  • 4+ years of engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, APEGA P.Eng. preferred for responsible engineering signoffs. Registered or eligible.
  • Experience with gas pipeline systems, control systems, facilities and pipeline operations are an asset, and this position will provide many chances to work with stakeholders across Canada Gas.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with design and operation of natural gas pipeline systems and asset integrity.
  • Familiarity with process control systems, CSA Z662, ASME B31.3 and other relevant codes and regulations
  • Established ability to problems solve by applying engineering principles and developing effective solutions.
  • Effective communication (written and oral) and presentation skills
  • Highly capable time management, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent work ethic, attention to detail and a track record of driving tasks to completion
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills, with the ability to collaborate and contribute to a team environment.
