Our Midstream client is looking for a SCADA Engineer for their Downtown Edmonton office. This position is to independently maintain and enhance functionality for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in support of Control Centre Operations and related business areas.  They will provide technical mentorship and leadership for other SCADA Integration team members and work with staff from other areas to manage and resolve client issues for the overall benefit of PCSLD and the company.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Play a key role in the integration of projects to SCADA production by providing technical support, troubleshooting, problem diagnosis, and application testing/configuration changes.
  • Work closely with Control Centre staff in the planning, organizing and delivering of projects to the Control Centre.
  • Work closely with the Loss Management, Power and Margin, Infrastructure Optimization, Control System teams (among others) to assist on requests to meet business needs.
  • Work closely with the SCADA Operations and SCADA Support teams to ensure changes in the SCADA System is communicated and transitioned properly.
  • Oversee the successful transition of applications and new instance of PROCYS (RTAP), OASyS, Cygnet into operation.
  • Provide guidance to junior Integrators or at times, coordinate the work of a small team.
  • Assist in SCADA system commissioning effort.
  • Support critical applications through 24×7 call-out rotation.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of SCADA best practices, standards, and operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure SCADA project needs are met.
  • Communicate technical requirements to non-technical audience members.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation as per company standards.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the team and its success.
  • Support the development and transition of the SCADA Replacement Program.

Working relationships:

  • CCO personnel (Supervisors, Technical Advisors and Operators) as well as well as other areas such as Engineering, Control Systems, and Leak Detection to determine their requirements for new SCADA functionality.
  • Project Managers and Project Team to ensure that the implementations of SCADA projects are staying on track.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 year(s) of work experience.
  • Working Knowledge of UNIX, C, C++, Java, and Perl programming language.
  • Working Knowledge of Process Control Systems and SCADA.
  • Ability to lead, develop and monitor activities of junior staff.
  • Strong analytical, communications and problems solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

Working conditions:

  • Work is conducted in an office environment which can be fast paced, requiring balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • This work is typically conducted during a normal 8-hour shift; however there are times where the schedule of a project will dictate the restructuring of shifts at different times of the day.
