Raise is hiring a  Senior Engineer – Work Methods  for Our Client one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada. This position is a Ten (10) month contract located in Burnaby, BC. We are actively seeking talented professionals like you to drive these crucial initiatives forward.

Description

The Engineer in this role will support capital projects (primarily Transmission Overhead Line) to perform safety, workability, and maintainability input to the design as an extension to the Human Factors and Work Methods team 

Accountabilities

  • Develop 3D models for work simulation to access live line workability / maintainability / clearances requirements
  • Assist capital projects in delivery of job hazard assessments and energized work procedures, rigging, fall protection and rescue plans and any special / custom tools (i.e. yolks) in accordance with internal established processes and practices, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
  • Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
  • Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and Design Practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
  • Prepare designs for existing and new facilities.
  • Perform various engineering calculations in accordance with regulatory and industry standards such as electrical clearances, electromagnetic and electrostatic field calculations and related induction studies, transient over voltage, switching voltages, AC interference, ampacity, radio interference, audible noise, lightning protection, grounding, arcing, soil resistivity, EMTP.
  • Prepare designs, drawings, and specifications for electrical systems on Transmission Overhead – Lines such as line surge arresters, line disconnect switches, lightening protection, circuit to circuit separation.
  • Prepare reports for internal and external clients detailing investigations, evaluation, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices.
  • Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing, specifically technical writing.
  • Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform activities such as developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on low to medium complexity assignments for projects and/or operations.
  • Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by performing activities such as proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.

Required 

  • This role requires demonstrated experience with the electrical design for Overhead – lines and underground cables for operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment.
  • 4 years of experience in a relevant engineering field and familiar with energized work methods and tools and equipment for Transmission overhead line work
  • Technical knowledge of hydro-electric Transmission system is preferred (Distribution and Substation second)
  • Experience in work practices on power system, risk assessment and safety processes is preferred.
  • Well-developed technical writing, communication, and presentation skills are necessary to succeed in this position.
  • Nice to have 
    • Experience in transmissions, overhead lines design

  • Education and Skills
    • Prefer to have an Engineering degree (preferably electrical, integrated, electro-mechanical engineering, then mechanical, civil and others) 
    • P.Eng. and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
    • Trade certification in Transmission O/H line work or construction will be considered
    • Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software
    • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing, specifically technical writing.
    • You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius

Additional Information 

  • Candidates must be located in the lower mainland, as they will be working a hybrid schedule of 2 days a week in the office 
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 10 or 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
