Ian Martin Workforce is working with a reputable plastics recycling facility. The employees are passionate about the environment and are considered leaders within the recycling industry. As the new production supervisor, you will be overseeing a crew of 9 employees and will be a hands on supervisor spending 80% of your day on the floor with the employees.  

Production Supervisor Duties:

  • Lead Production Operators to achieve production goals.
  • Train, coach and develop operators.
  • Track production results and provide shift reports.
  • Supports maintenance team when required to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Leads the effective development of team members for department working closely with Plant Manager to ensure consistent process standards.
  • Holds daily staff meeting and organizes work force to meet production needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety, and quality standards while meeting production performance targets.
  • Holds people accountable for their time / attendance, safety, and quality.
  • Manages housekeeping within area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for annual performance reviews of reports.

Skills and Qualification for Production Supervisor Role:

  • Completion of High School with previous supervisory/management experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the recycling industry
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven leadership skills to manage performance and inspire team to achieve results.
  • Communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Strong operating skills in organizing, planning and time management.
  • Ability to manage and measure team members work performance.
  • Working knowledge of computers and office automation tools such as Excel.
  • Action oriented with a strong ability to resolve issues efficiently.

The Production Supervisor would be a shift resource and therefore assigned to a particular shift. Any applicant must be able to work 12-hour continental rotating shifts, however our current schedule is 8 hours per day 5 days per week (days/afternoons/nights) rotating every two weeks.

  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance of electrical equipment, repair of electrical/mechanical systems.

  • Participate, collaborate and cooperate with other trades to speed up repair and maintenance.
  • Maintain all electrical wiring and switch gears sub-panels, facility HVAC, lighting, fans, and production equipment such as to ensure operator safety and machine integrity.
  • Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine how to proceed.
  • Run tests on electrical components to ensure a safe and effective installation
  • Inspect electrical systems and equipment for any damage, malfunctions, and safety hazards
  • Participate in the implementation of various improvement projects.
  • Repair, install, align, dismantle and move equipment / production lines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications Needed:

  • Licensed Industrial Electrician 442a;
  • Experience related to the job: 2-5 years
  • Knowledge of electrical, automation and controls
  • Basic to moderate understand of PLC’s
  • Experience with Krones machinery is an asset

• Coordinate internal and external audit activities including notification and scheduling for all affected parties of audit timing, scope, objectives, approach and deliverables

• Develop value added recommendations to deal with issues identified during assigned audits and draft audit reports to formally communicate the results of the audit and related recommendations

• Experience in using a risk-based audit approach in evaluations of and recommendations for management processes

Ian Martin Workforce is looking for two top performing Production Supervisors for full-time permanent positions in the Durham Region.

Supervisors at this facility will  be responsible for managing the second shift. Candidates with a strong background in people leadership and a keen understanding of lean principles and continuous improvement are encouraged to apply:

Daily responsibilities:

  • Very hands on leadership. Being visible on the floor for your team. Jumping in and helping out where needed is a standard within the facility
  • You are a key contributor for the performance management for your team. You will be addressing all issues pertaining to wages, hiring and terminating.
  • Lead assigned staff through coaching, counseling, motivating and disciplining as needed; planning, monitoring and appraising job results
  • You are able to give direction, set expectations and direct activities designed to achieve and maintain high employee morale; fostering intra- and inter-department cooperation.
  • Big Customer focus when it come to product processing as well as monitoring the movement as it is processed through the facility, stored  and shipped.
  • Maintaining machines. Troubleshoot when required and call for maintenance for more complex repairs.  
  • Maintains mechanical and technical skills, knowledge and abilities by attending workshops, reviewing trade publications and participating in training operators and material handlers to conduct minor, basic repairs to equipment, machinery, etc.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment by advising management of unsafe work practices or conditions and supporting plant safety by openly discussing safety in meetings
  • Exchange ideas freely and coordinate with management to review methods and approaches to effective implementation of work instructions

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a lead operations/production position with FDA and/or ISO and/or regulated industry with strong Customer focus. Will accept minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
  • Requires computer literacy.  And being proficient or at least strong Excel spreadsheet knowledge as it is critical for this role. 
  • Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
  • Above average organizing and analyzing skill and Level 2 math skill (four basic arithmetic functions in all units of measurement, decimals ratios, rates, percentages) to determine organizational, customer and regulatory problems and formulate corrective action plans

So what will you be doing day to day:

  • Offer electrical support to maintenance and production teams.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance of electrical equipment, repair of electrical/mechanical systems and production equipment throughout facility.
  • Work within a team to provide support for the production line to troubleshoot and repair breakdowns efficiently.
  • Provide written reports of work required for repairs and upgrades including tracking all parts, work orders and labour through advanced CMMS
  • Participate, collaborate and cooperate with other trades to speed up repair and maintenance.
  • Maintain all electrical wiring and switch gears sub-panels, facility HVAC, lighting, fans, and production equipment such as to ensure operator safety and machine integrity.
  • Participate in mechanical repairs as required.
  • Build and install basic panels / equipment while meeting all code requirements.

Skills/Qualifications needed:

  • Licensed Industrial Electrician 442a
  • 4th or 5th year Electrical Apprentices with related industrial experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude including knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveyor equipment.
  • Panel wiring and PLC knowledge an asset.
  • Manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical, automation and controls.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical schematics and wiring drawings.

The Estimator will centralize and standardize our bid processes as a key member of our Business Development team. This individual will support Operations in the development, management, and continuous improvement of the bid process. The Estimator will ensure proposals meet consistent standards and coordinate the collection of key proposal inputs such as scope, costs, engineering requirements, examples of previous projects, and other information required to respond to bids or requests for proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the bid process including initiating bid kick off meetings with internal stakeholders, respond to pre-qualifications, RFQ's, RFP's and preparing bid for General Manager's review and approval.
