B Corp Day is the day when employees of the world’s 1,307 B Corps in 41 countries volunteer in their own communities – across the globe!
This year was our first time participating in B Corp Day and it was a blast and a half!
Employees from all over the company volunteered in their local communities:
We tackled invasive species around the Fourteen Mile Creek with Oakville green:
We cleaned, gardened, and offered resume and interview clinics with Kerr Street Mission:
We bought and packed more than 200 care kits for youth who are living on Toronto’s streets, to be distributed by Light Patrol:
We helped get a new community garden in great shape at the Anglican Church of the Incarnation in Oakville:
We weeded the gardens of the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre in Saugeen Shores:
We coached junior high girls’ basketball with a Halifax program called Triple Threat:
We volunteered at a charity golf tournament in Pickering hosted by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Clarington and sponsored by AECON.
We hung out with local St. John seniors and joined them for a carpet bowling tournament – our Mary Jane and her bowling partner Joan took home the trophy:
We cleaned up in the Edmonton River Valley:
We polished silver and other historical pieces at the Oakville Museum:
We did it in style, in B Corp t-shirts that we’re going to reuse and an environmentally friendly Town of Oakville bus:
And then gathered for an awesome BBQ to refuel, celebrate, and raise money for our long-term charity partners, IAF and Iris Ministries Malawi:
Thanks to B Corp Day, we learned more about the communities where we live and work, we pitched in to make those communities better, and we put in more than 400 hours towards our goal of donating 1860 volunteer hours a year – the number of hours a full-time contractor works in a year.
And at 2202 volunteer hours logged this year already, I’d say that goal is busted like a bad case of Buckthorn.
What a day!
Can’t wait for next years!
