The Invisible Industry Looking for 1.4 Million New Workers

Jun 16, 2014

You order a package from Amazon, and it arrives on your doorstep a few days later.  While your local courier company might deserve some of the credit, there’s an entire industry working in the background – hidden in plain sight, and worth $1.3 trillion USD a year:  Supply chain.

According to Forbes, the US Logistics business will be looking for 1.4 new million workers by 2018 – but has a bit of an image problem.  The jobs that spring to mind are warehouse forklift drivers, when the reality is that the industry desperately needs qualified talent in high tech, analytics, robotics, and engineering on the technical side – as well as managers, marketers, analysts and HR execs.

With a median salary of about $80k, and the prevalence of online shopping only growing, supply chain and logistics looks to be a hot (but often overlooked)  career prospect.
