Who is Raise?

Since 1957, Raise (formerly known as The Ian Martin Group) has a long, trusted history of Engineering, IT, and technical recruitment, contract management, and payroll service excellence. Over the last few years, we have grown into a family of companies that provide specialized hiring support across a broad range of industries, including Financial Services, Power & Energy, Oil & Gas, Mining, Public Sector, Manufacturing, Food & Beverage, and Life Sciences.

To provide the utmost benefit and value to our clients, our communities, and the planet, Raise does business a little differently. We are committed to using our business as a force for good. We are the only staffing provider in North America that is PAR Committed with the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) and a Certified B Corporation—this means we meet comprehensive and rigorous third-party standards that measure our impact on employees, clients, community, and the environment. Our purpose is to “connect people with meaningful work” so that one day the 20% of people who love their jobs will become the 80%—and the world will be a different place.

Raise has over 500 full-time employees, 2,500+ consultants on assignment, and 10 offices globally. We are ranked one of the Best Staffing Firms to Work for by the SIA in 2021 and ranked Best Workplaces for Inclusion and Best Workplaces for Women because of our diversity initiatives in breaking down barriers to meaningful work.

Raise’s commitment to Indigenous peoples

Raise is committed to providing sustainable Indigenous employment and career development opportunities throughout our organization. Through positive and mutually beneficial relationships with our Indigenous neighbours, we will continue to create social and economic benefits through partnership and collaboration.

We believe that successful relationships with Indigenous communities must be based upon respect, fairness, understanding, and open communication to understand the traditional land use concerns of these communities and to minimize our impact on these concerns. We respect the legal rights of Indigenous communities, along with their cultural traditions, economies, beliefs, knowledge, and uses of lands and resources. This respect shapes the way we operate and conduct our business.

Program background

We understand that while highly skilled and educated Indigenous peoples have some access to opportunities, not everyone has the same access due to geographic or other barriers. And when it comes to equity-deserving people, we understand that the problem is not simply finding candidates but having community involvement, participatory design, investments, and culturally appropriate resources in place to support people so they can not only do the job but thrive.

Indigenous folks in Canada have long deserved a customized, Indigenous-informed strategy to ensure they have the right support to grow, develop, and share equitably in the country’s economic prosperity. This program allows us to leverage our company strengths and community relationships to do just that, through an on-the-job training and employment program with community consultation and guidance that leads to full-time work with Raise.

Working in a self-managed environment

Raise is self-managed, which means we don’t have managers or other forms of corporate hierarchy you may have seen at other companies. This gives all of our employees the opportunity to exercise freedom and responsibility in their work, relying on advice from their teams and co-workers to make sure work is being done efficiently and effectively. When you join Raise, you’ll be paired with a coach who will help you develop all the necessary skills and knowledge for working within a self-managed organization.

Recruiting as a career

A recruiter is a person responsible for finding, recruiting, and pre-screening candidates to fill open positions for client organizations across the public and private sectors. You will develop and implement recruitment strategies designed to find appropriate candidates for specific roles. Your duties include working closely with other members of the organization to ensure that they are continually recruiting for the right positions. You will also work with our recruitment software to engage with candidates and submit them to roles.

Raise has a vast network in the banking, engineering, IT and technical sectors, and recruiters have the opportunity to better understand and learn about the diverse opportunities in this network to determine their career goals and progression.

Recruiting can be frustrating work at times—for harder roles, it can feel a little like finding a needle in a haystack. But if you’re up for the challenge, the rewards are many:

  • Helping to shape peoples’ future with new opportunities and the right jobs for them.
  • Learning new skills, including: negotiation, communication, recruitment strategies, and technology tools.
  • Challenging and never-ending variety—with different requirements and people to talk to, no day is ever the same!
  • Meeting new people all the time in various industries and building relationships and networks.
  • In-depth insight into the business world—working across industries, you’ll learn about different sectors and their company/ organizational structures.
